Unusual level of cool or creepy depending on your perspective. This was once a convent, nicely renovated with cool floor tiles and decor but with lots of old nun images everywhere. Highest marks to the staff-- friendly, helpful "Minnesota Nice" in the best way. Room was clean and well-stocked. The bad: no insulation on the very old and in some places cracked windows, making it very noisy all night (because of car racing and people yelling in the street and the trolley right next to the building), also curious noises in the walls (maybe from the plumbing?) Neighborhood is also rather sketchy at night with almost nothing in walking distance. Local friends say they've enjoyed the bar, but the breakfast service was no better than a chain hotel.

The parking is close but the lot over charges. There were a couple times I paid over $30 for less than 9 hours and it says $17 for 24 hour. Super annoying!!

Building used to be a nunnery and has a charming nun themed decoration. That’s the highlight. Check in was slow with only one couple in front of us. There computer system was down and they didn’t seem to have a back up plan. Charming cocktail bar with a fun selection of nun themed cocktails, however due to a poorly stocked bar, many of the options were not available. Only one bartender and no wait staff. Because most folks ordered cocktails, service was very slow and bar was only about 1/3 full. Light sleepers should bring earplugs. Hotel is right next to the light rail tracks, an intersection and a rail stop. Horn blows for intersection and clanging at stop to alert passengers. There’s also a church across the street that rings bells for Sunday am service. Breakfast is included from 7-10. We arrived at 8. Eggs were gone, the only staff person was cooking another batch that when done, disappeared in 5 minutes. Out of coffee, out of pastries, low on bread. Tiniest yogurt cups I’ve ever seen. “Sausages” looked like cut up hotdogs. I didn’t sample. Rooms are cute, but lacking. Only one chair in our room and only one side of the bed had a nightstand. No phone. Limited selection on TV and poor sound quality. Only one working elevator which guests had to compete with cleaning staff for room. No ghost sightings. That might be a + or - for you!

What’s not to love about the Celeste? Everything you could ask for in a cozy hotel. Lovely accomodating staff, warm breakfast, the room was clean both upon arrival and when my partner and I were out and about. Parking was right next door at the World Trade Center parking ramp, and wasn’t expensive (overnight park there was $24; compared to Chicago, that’s a steal). We got the Capitol view room, straight across from the elevator. The view of the Capitol building may have been covered by some trees, but hardly a dealbreaker— especially because when we went, most days and evenings are extremely quiet! No loud noises save the nearby church and nearby Metro Transit tram bells. You’ll get excellent sleep. In all, I’d highly recommend the Celeste if you want a place to set out on your adventures in the heart of St. Paul.

Really phenomenal building! History galore! They did a great job with the upgrades and it was very clean! Comfortable beds and all the hot water a gal could want! The staff really made it for me though! The front desk woman was so kind, huge smile always, and friendly the whole way through my stay! The bar staff was also phenomenal! Great personalities! Parking was very convenient also! I will most certainly stay again!

It was just a lot to pay for a place with no free parking available.

The staff was lovely, my room was well kept and very clean, the amenities and breakfast were excellent and varied, and the property is absolutely stunning. No complaints! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Staff was so helpful. Room was very clean. Breakfast was great. I used the parking garage next store. It was safe and convenient, though as expensive as any other parking garage.

Liked the convent vibe The discrepancy between what booking.com said it was going to cost 139 or 162 and it actually cost 186. I know taxes and whatnot are added but seems a little extreme

Breakfast was good. The room was underwhelming. The closet was tiny and had 3 hangers. Tgere was no dresser at all so where do they expect you to put your clothes. I guess they want you in and out while living out of your suitcase. The closet had a ironing board where the clothes should be hung so it's impossible to hang your clothes unless you put the ironing board in the middle of the already tight room and you had to bring your own hangers. The bar was nice but 2 nights in a row the bartender said he couldn't make a white Russian because he had no cream. He said the hotel doesn't stock the bar well. I was like I"ll go to the store because my wife wants a white Russian. The hotel is cool and quaint but ambulances go right past it all night long.

Breakfast was good, with plenty of options. We loved the concept of the hotel, and how well it was carried out through all of the rooms. The location was great, with the gorgeous capitol building a short walk away. Parking was $12/day at the Minnesota lot between 7th and 9th. It’s pay by plate, so you can come and go. It was only a 5 minute walk through the church parking lot, and we felt comfortable going back and forth at night. The only complaints are outside the control of the hotel staff: there are two manhole covers on Cedar St that cars clank over, making rooms on that side of the hotel rough for any lighter sleepers. This can be solved with ear plugs. There was also some trash that accumulated on the front steps of the hotel, but that was over the weekend and it did not remain. I would definitely stay again if I visit St. Paul in the future!

The BEST place to stay!!!

This is such a great spot and location. I have stayed here about 5 times since the fall. In that time, the small restaurant/bar on the first floor has been a lovely environment, but often lacking a number of items on the menu. Breakfast, on the other hand, is substantial and full - the breakfast is very good.

Yes, yes, yes, yes , very nice.

Wonderful staff and hotel

The hotel is a comfortable, spacious, welcoming place to stay. As a renovated convent, it has dark wood and a stark flavor to the decor, but the spaciousness and quiet elegance of the hotel makes it all very appealing. We got a free upgrade to an executive suite, which we appreciated. The room was very spacious. The shampoo, shower gel, etc. were lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was decent-- better than many hotels in the area. My husband and I will happily stay there whenever we're visiting St. Paul.
