Garner Hotel Virginia Beach North by IHG

We booked on hotels.com. We wanted to pay at the hotel. Mistake! They said that our card didn't go through (which was never a problem). Hotels.com sent an email to add a different payment until 7pm on the check in day. At 4 pm hotel staff said that our room was booked already. It was a Saturday so they sold our room for a higher price and made up the story about our card. Lesson: pay for your room so they can't sell your room to someone else.

We went to breakfast our first morning and walked out. It was overcrowded, loud and very much less than desireable. It wasn’t a cheap hotel 2 rooms for 2 nights cost us over $2000. They also make you leave a $50 deposit for parking and charge you per night. We didn’t understand the deposit. We would not recommend the hotel.

Awesome spot, check in was a little slow, but the place is extremely well managed, breakfast is good, staff are great, pool is nice, and it was immaculately cleanly. While not beachfront, it’s close enough to the beach that a quick walk to it isn’t a logistical nightmare.

Cleam room

Ice machines were broken, our mini fridge was broken and smelled terrible. I requested it to be fixed and no one showed. I had to leave three times to get bags of ice to store our food in our coolers. The outdoor pool was filthy and based on the sign posted, hadn’t been cleaned in over two weeks. Breakfast was free and wasn’t terrible. They provided eggs, meat or sausage, bread, bagels, apples, and cereal. I arrived to the hotel 20 minutes before checking and they let me know there’s an $50 fee for chewing in any amount of time prior to 4pm. Upon arrival (came back at 4) I was charged for parking even though when booking on Expedia it stated free parking. I was charged a $50 deposit and an extra $60 on top of those undisclosed fees! Expedia tells you when locations have extra fees on top of your booking. I am not sure how they get away with this. When asked the hotel manager told me “I will call you with a refund”. That never happened. I do not recommend this hotel for families who travel on a strict budget. I had to cut costs on some areas due to the extra charges. I am a single mother and had hoped for a better experience when traveling 10 hours with my four teenagers.

Everything! The staff was amazing! Housekeeping and the front deck especially were really helpful. It was great only being a block away from the beach and shopping everywhere.

We had a great stay friendly staff breakfast was good and parking was great.
