Howard Johnson by Wyndham Harrisonburg

I never stayed there and they would not let me cancel the reservation. The reason I refused to stay there was I had a horrible stay at a different Howard Johnson that included bug infestation. Due to that experience I did not want to stay at any other Howard Johnson’s EVER AGAIN. This was explained to the manager but they chose to charge me for the room anyway.

The hot water in the room never got really hot. The presence of other guests was weary.

When staying in a room. You really dont want to stay beside so.eone that lives there permanently. And sits beside your vehicle spray painting his electric scooter. Rooms smelt very musty and like cigarettes.

All the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. The first room i was given was clearly a smoking room, and the exterior door had a gap where you could see out. However, the staff changed my room with no issue. For the second room, the seal around the door could have been better (light came shining through as did somebody's cigarette smoke). Both rooms were very worn, especially the floors. The floor of the bathroom in the second room felt spongy (but not wet); I don't know if it was supposed to be like that. The bed was relatively comfortable, and the sheets seemed clean. One of the pillow had been in a smoking room. Another had a musty smell in one corner. But there was a nice assortment of firmness in pillows, which was nice. The TV screen needed cleaning, but it was a good picture. The floors could have been better swept. The AC worked well. The continental breakfast was very limited. This will not be my first choice next year, but the price was nice.

The wife was concerned about the 2 star rating but this was false. The parking was perfect and all the rooms were ground level. I booked because of nostalgia and though there were plenty of pretend 5 stars around the location we would definitely stay here again. The pricing was excellent, all was clean, and the only fault from the appearance was the safety rails could use a paint job. No swimming pool, or gym was not a problem as we were booked only for one night. The neighborhood was so clean I felt very safe. I have told other travelers already and will continue to do so.

Overall the stay was okay. The shower is made with shorter people, 5ft or shorter, in mind. The staff were pleasant in the morning and greeted me. For those on special diets, I do recommend you bring your own food. There was a microwave in the room which was great to heat up my dinner and breakfast the next morning.

I immediately asked for a refund. I’ll specifically ask for a non smoking room. When we walked into the room, it was filled with old musky smoke smell. We checked the beds like we always do and there was cigarette burn holes in both of the queen size beds on top of the comforter. I immediately went down and spoke to the office clerk, and he stated that he could only change the room one more time and that was it. I told him that I requested a non-smoking room and he said that that was a non-smoking room would not recommend.

The location Pretty much everything

Serves good breakfast. Staff is helpful. Excellent location. Good for overnight stay. Rooms are worth $75 for sure, not more than that. So if anyone is getting a deal of $75/under - grab it.

Clean room friendly helpful staff

Avoid this place just horrible where to begin well the hotel looks like it hasn't been updated since 1990 including the beds. The air conditioner made noise and smelled like smoke everytime heat was used. The breakfast was stale cereal and spoiled milk that made my daughter sick. There were people yelling and partying getting stoned in front of our door at 2am and nothing was done nor would front desk answer the phone. On check out day which is supposed to be 11 our keys stopped working at 9 two times. Then the worst we were charged 100 because my daughters tampon leaked a little on the 15 year old sheets you could literally see through and the hotel was too cheap to put a 3 dollar mattress protector on the bed

I booked 4 rooms and everyone of them were terrible. All of them smelled so bad like weed/smoke and one smelled like sewer so bad. We told the staff and they came to look and said they couldn’t smell anything. This is the worst I have ever had at this facility
